One of the many ways we support you at Write Well University is through our writing coaching services. Dawn Goldberg, our own Chief Writing Officer, offers coaching to get you through writing hurdles, hold you accountable, and champion your successes.

This is so much more than your traditional coaching services. It's not life coaching, and it's not business coaching. Instead, it's a concept revolving around your specific writing issues, suggestions and exercises, objective feedback, and support.

What can I do with Dawn as my writing coach?

  • Overcome your personal writing challenges. Do you have trouble conveying your meaning through your writing? Are there grammatical issues you just can't get a handle on? Do you feel fairly confident with your writing, but you need help in a specific area, say, conclusions? Dawn can help guide you through your particular writing obstacles.
  • Have an objective, supportive champion for your writing. Dawn edits your work and provides feedback. Whether your particular issue is grammar or style, she'll offer feedback in all areas to help you become a polished, well-rounded writer.
  • Create a life around writing. Do you want to write, but yet you always find time to do anything else but write? Does your life feel too full to fit writing in? With Dawn's help, you can design your life so that writing is an integral part of your life, not just an afterthought.
  • Set goals. Whether it's an end goal or intermediate milestones, Dawn works with you to create manageable, reasonable goals for your writing.
  • Be held accountable. How many times have you thought about writing and don't do it? Dawn is there as a supportive coach who lovingly pushes you to the goals you've set.
  • Manifest your inner self into your daily life - through words. Why do you want to write? Is it to be known? Is it to get a message across? Dawn's soul purpose is to do just that, for herself and for you.

How does it work?

First, you'll want to have a conversation with Dawn about your needs and whether she can help you. You'll both determine if you're a fit for each other.

Second, if you both are raring to go, you'll send Dawn a current writing sample and set up an initial intake session. This is the space where the two of you talk about your writing purpose, challenges, strengths, and goals.

Third, the two of you will meet twice a month for forty-five minutes each session. During this time, you'll share with Dawn any writing issues that have come up, and the two of you will create a plan for resolving them. Dawn may assign you reading or exercises specific to your needs and challenges. As with the entire coaching relationship, nothing is mandatory. You can agree, disagree, or negotiate; this is a safe relationship that supports and nurtures you, and sometimes pushes you, but you always have a choice in the matter.

Finally, your coaching arrangement provides for Dawn's evaluation of your writing.

The fee is $450 per month.

How do I get started?

You'll want to have that conversation with Dawn! Send her an email at to set up a time for the two of you to chat.

What other people have to say about coaching with Dawn

Dawn immediately touched my heart from the moment of our first conversation. She is authentic, warm, cheery and caring. I had the pleasure of being coached by a special someone that is connected and true to her Self. Her end result is always the same; for her clients to speak their inner voice. She regularly stated that every one of us has something important to share with the world. We just have to find a way to let it out without judgment and criticism. Dawn was my way of allowing the message to surface and let it go through writing.

Many unexpected emotions were experienced during the writing process as the message ‘stuck’ within started to surface. Dawn gave me generous and much needed support and guidance to dig deeper, and still continue to be true to myself. We quickly gloss things over when deep issues arise, not wanting to face them, but Dawn continued to encourage me and always expected me to do my best. She challenged me to see things differently and to believe in my message, as well as the writing process.

Dawn was with me through the writings of my master’s and doctorate. At times, long days and endless nights brought on frustration and discouragement. Dawn was there for me every step of the way. Sometimes I didn’t have to say a thing. She just knew I needed her attention and support. Her strong belief in me kept me going to the end, where I now proudly hold a Ph.D.

Dawn’s coaching empowers and challenges you to work deep; to find the core of your thoughts; to hear your voice; and to write authentically to who you really are. Her process of writing is very healing. I highly recommend Dawn for the novice to the advanced. There is always something to learn when it comes to writing well. She gave me the confidence and trust to believe in my own writing. Thank you, Dawn. I bless you for all you have done to help me through the writing process.

Coaching with Dawn was more than I expected. There was support for me as a writer as well as the sharing of writing techniques that were specific to me. Not only me personally in a broad sense, but also specific to where I was in my process. There were times when I would end our conversations having not only come to a realization about a problem or dilemma that I had not been aware of that was holding me back, but also with the solution to that dilemma. Things that I know, looking back, would have taken me weeks or months to work through, I was able to identify and problem solve after one session.

I had not acknowledged the extent to which my negative self-talk got in the way of my productivity and creativity. Dawn's gentle but firm approach was ceaseless in guiding to that awareness and encouraging me to take a more positive approach, not only to my writing, but to myself. At this point, I am more supportive of myself and the creative process. There is an acceptance for the many forms that takes now, as opposed to try and force an unrealistic ideal that I often reverted to before. Dawn helped me to realize that much of my concerns were based on a fantasy 'writer' that was not the ideal to hold myself to. Letting that go allowed for more, not less, creative writing.

Now I have a better idea of what the writing process is for me and to work with my own skills and creative process more efficiently. I also have more tools and techniques for organizing and brainstorming.

There were times in talking with Dawn that I already had all the answers, it just took the trust in the relationship that she built with me to confirm those answers. It's like talking through a situation with a best friend that you trust to tell you the truth that you already know. As a result of those experiences, I now trust myself more and spend less energy second guessing my writing and more on just enjoying the process.

As a result of coaching with Dawn, I am going to finish the project that she helped me with. I realize now that my biggest enemy is my time/schedule and not some inherent weakness in my abilities as a writer.

Why coach with Dawn?

She draws upon years of experience in writing, teaching, and training, from all levels: English grammar and literature in the classroom, English as a second language, and even in a literacy program for adults.

She has been writing almost her entire life, from elementary school to right now. She has researched writing, the structure of language, and how words work and fit together.

She knows what it's like to struggle to write. Dawn grapples with many of the same things you do: how to design writing into your life, how to commit to writing when there are so many other things to do, and how to conquer those voices of self-doubt and criticism.

She's sought after as a writing expert for publishing and networking conferences, and she speaks about writing and creativity to audiences of all sizes. She knows this stuff like the back of her hand (her writing hand, that is).

She can step back and see the overall message of a piece as well as home in on the individual elements that make up that message. She can see what works and what doesn't.
