From Concept to Content Workshop - FREE!
One of the biggest challenges with writing is getting started.
Whether you're a novice or an experienced writer, getting those
words on the screen or on paper can feel insurmountable.
Ideas can be the easy part; it's developing full-bodied, coherent
content that gives people trouble.
From Concept to Content is
a one-hour workshop based on the Ready,
Set, Write program in which you'll take real ideas and build
on them. Then, with content already developed, you'll find writing
much easier, and your finished product will be well-formed and complete.
What you'll get from this workshop
- A clear understanding of writing as a three-step
process, not a one-time, sit-down outpouring that results in a
perfect, finished piece
- An awareness of how you process information
and how you can use that knowledge to help you brainstorm and
write
- A demonstration of 3-4 brainstorming strategies
How From Concept to Content works
First, you should know that these workshops are limited to a small
number of participants (seven). These are not large teleconferences
where you'll be muted out for most of the time. Dawn will ask questions
and expect answers (or at least gentle participation).
We'll spend some time talking about writing as a multi-step process.
Then, we'll share with the group ideas we want to write about. From
there, we'll talk about the different ways in which people think
and take in the world and how that can apply to writing. Finally,
we'll work with real ideas from three to four participants to illustrate
how these idea-generating strategies work. You'll see the strategies
in action and have three solid tactics for use in your own writing.
What you need to participate in this workshop
- An idea! While you could listen and observe,
it won't be as meaningful as if you have an idea to try out. Besides,
your idea could be one that we use in the workshop. How cool is
that? You have an idea, and you get to work on it! (What kind
of an idea? It could be an idea for an article, eBook, story,
teleclass, letter, proposal, blog post, press release ... anything!
And if you don't have an idea, we can talk about strategies to
get that elusive inspiration.)
- A phone and Internet connection you can use
simultaneously. We'll be using GoToMeeting, a free service for
participants, so that we can all see the strategies in action.
Nitty gritty details
- The workshop is an hour long.
- The workshop is free. There is no additional
fee, unless you have a dial-up Internet connection for which you
have to pay for usage. In addition, you may incur long-distance
charges depending upon your telephone service.
- This is a highly participatory workshop with
fewer than 10 participants. Come prepared to join in the discussion!
- For a list of when we're holding the next From
Concept to Content, see the Workshop Dates

Praise for From Concept to Content
I thought your From Concept to Content
tele-class was inspired. You have given me a powerful tool that
I am eager to share with my two friends. What an excellent facilitator
you are - great job! ~ Peggy Peterson, Quality
Imaging, Lakewood, Colorado
"After listening to multiple teleconference
and teleclass formats recently, I can assure you that your relaxed,
down-to-earth, friendly style is refreshing. You seem very comfortable
in your presentation, relaxed yet energetic at the same time. Wow!
How do you do that? : - ) You are also positive and sometimes playful
in your approach. Delightful!"
~ Deborah Lynn
"Your class tonight was fabulous! I often
feel conflicted between creativity and logic, and the method you
demonstrated allows for free flowing creativity in a logical way.
The class was presented in a very pleasant, non-intimidating manner."
~ Missi Bryant, Edmond,
Oklahoma
